Each year, Prof. José Silva selects exceptionally talented students to transform original lyrics and narratives into fully realized songs, creating unique experiments in storytelling and melody.

How can students participate in Song Experiments? Every summer, Prof. José Silva selects and curates a group of talented students from the University of Miami to participate in the year's collaborations. Students bring their own musical backgrounds, cultural influences, and activities to turn written stories into songs across various genres, such as rock. Interested students can send an email with questions.  

What happens to the music produced through Song Experiments? All songs are released on major digital streaming platforms worldwide, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Lyric videos are also created and shared on the project’s YouTube channel.

What genres and styles do Song Experiments cover? Our collaborations span diverse musical styles, including EDM, pop-rock, classic rock, pop ballads, and disco-pop. Each partnership explores how different rhythmic traditions, melodic sensibilities, and musical arrangements can illuminate the same core narrative, resulting in a rich variety of sounds and approaches.
